Always using secure protocol. Last but not least, can also exchange data by using well known IoT protocols like MQTT. 

Optimize

Once the data arrives in the cloud, it runs procedures for optimization, alerts the services team about potencial problems in the field and commands can be sent back to the field, like changing the HVAC start time or turning the lights off after the normal working hour
