tado° is the intelligent climate control system for private households, small businesses and shops. It senses when the last resident leaves the house and turns down the heating. It also takes current weather forecast data and building characteristics into account. The additional digital boiler protection tado° Care provides certainty that the heating is operational by preventing damage before it occurs and offering immediate help in case of malfunctions. tado° was founded by Christian Deilmann, Johannes Schwarz and Valentin Sawadski in 2011. The team has been working on the development of tado° at the headquarters in Munich since 2010. After going to market in November 2012 and gaining tens of thousands of users in the EU with the tado° solution for heating systems, the team globally launched tado° Cooling for AC.
The name “tado” is derived from the Japanese greetings “tadaima” and “okaeri”. Loosely translated, they mean “I'm home” and “Welcome home”.

If you leave your heating system turned on during the day while you are not at home, a huge amount of energy will be wasted. If you turn it off during the daytime you will return to a cold home in the evening. To solve this, tado° has developed an intelligent solution which goes far beyond programmable thermostats: It acts automatically and does not require any annoying programming of presence times. tado° controls your heating automatically via smartphone by detecting with the help of location services whether someone is at home right now or not. As soon as the last person has left home the heating will automatically be turned down in order to save energy. As soon as you are starting your return home the system will raise the heating temperature again so that your home will be warmed up for you.
