Minew throws its hat in the UWB tracking tag game with a leak of the new smart tag

Minew steps in Ultra-Wideband technology with its own UWB tag for a smarter way to find lost or misplaced items. The design and image have leaked, showing its performance to help people find their keys and wallets with a precise and real-time location guide.

The technology has been around for years, but only recently has UWB started gaining popularity as it promises greater accuracy than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for determining the location and movement of other devices. Apple and other phone makers have included UWB chips in their phones, for the purpose of attaining compatible products.

Upholding the innovative notion, for offering customers a more precise positioning experience with accuracy up to centimeters, Minew will lead you all into some unknown of the coming Minew UWB Tag and UWB technology.

Smart tag with UWB support

What is UWB technology? Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) Technology is an ultra-low-power, short-range wireless technology that can be used to transmit data and capture accurate location and directional information. It operates over a wide frequency range from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz and has channel bandwidths over 500 MHz. The wide bandwidth also allows it to have a low power spectral density which minimizes interference with other technologies operating in the same frequency band. A location beacon essentially, a UWB (ultra-wideband) tag uses the radio technology that only needs a low energy level for short-range, high-bandwidth communications over a large portion of the radio spectrum. The UWB system is highly scalable and can cover a large area to track hundreds of objects on the assembly line at the same time. Moreover, there is a majority of application scenarios beyond your imagination, indoor navigation, warehouse positioning, assets tracking, smart retail, etc. You may find it sounds familiar with the Bluetooth beacon, let me show you a brief difference under comparing between these 2 common positioning technology.

UWB vs. Bluetooth

Bluetooth LE (BLE) is a low-power radio system that has been used in beacons for ranging and measuring location. BLE technology has the advantages of not being expensive and being easy to implement. In comparison, UWB measures are not based on the signal strength, but the time it takes the signal to travel from the object to the UWB tag.

Currently, BLE beacons may be the first choice to many suppliers or manufacturers, which predated UWB and are easily available to integrate with existing systems. Simply deployment of the BLE has become a firm and tight advantage rooting in people’s minds.

What makes ultra-wideband so well and unique?

High-speed data transmission

UWB exchanges a wide frequency bandwidth for high-speed data transmission, and does not occupy the crowded frequency resources, but shares frequency bands used by other wireless technologies. In military applications, it can be used to achieve long-distance, low interception rate, low detection rate, high security, and high-speed data transmission.

Low power consumption

UWB systems use intermittent pulses to send data, and the pulse duration is very short. UWB devices have great advantages over traditional wireless devices in terms of battery life and electromagnetic radiation.

Precise positioning

Ultra-wideband radios have strong penetrating capabilities and can perform precise positioning indoors and underground. Unlike GPS, which provides absolute geographic locations, ultra-short pulse locators can provide relative positions with positioning accuracy up to centimeters.

UWB Market outlook and top end-user industries

From the available and forecast data of the UWB Market and Application Trend from Techno Systems Research Co, Ltd, it’s clearly shown that the forecast to the units of the global UWB market reaches more than 200 million in 2021, and more than 1.2 billion units shipped by 2027. In the application trend, the smartphone segment has always been the biggest part, far above automotive, smart home devices, wearables, consumer tag, and RTLS B2B.

Healthcare − UWB is used to track and monitor hospital assets, patients, healthcare professionals, and the health status in the hospital. Greatly improve the efficiency of the work process and bring an excellent experience.

Retail – Greatly assists in finding information about the location of products and employees in the store, and achieves the ability to identify customers, employees, and goods. Ensure speed and process efficiency.

Manufacturing – The manufacturing vertical brings the huge market potential to UWB-based RTLS solutions. UWB-based RTLS solutions can also track and monitor telemetry conditions, such as humidity, pressure, and temperature of remote assets and ships, thereby improving worker safety and helping manage asset integrity.

Automobiles and transportation – In recent years, wireless technology has been mainly used in automobiles for radio reception and navigation purposes. The UWB solution is used to ensure high reliability in the heterogeneous environment inside the car.

Consumer Electronics – UWB will be the fastest growing technology and is expected to significantly improve the consumer experience related to home entertainment products. UWB meets the low-power requirements of electronic devices and provides low-cost solutions for widespread consumer adoption.

Moreover, the UWB Tag can be widely used in smart office, assets tracking, and more to explore. It greatly ensures security and contributes to the development of life and business.

What can we expect?

As an extremely mature Bluetooth positioning supplier, Minew has full confidence in exploring the new area and creating more practical UWB products with an accuracy of up to centimeters. In the future, you all can totally expect UWB to appear in a wide range of devices, and it will be the time that Minew is shining in the UWB arena.
