Aetheros, a provider of machine-type computing and communications, has announced that its open computing and communications cards for smart metres are now available in North America. The Aetheros Edge Server Router for Meters (AOS ESR-M) and LTE Network Interface Card (AOS LTE NIC) are providing a secure, Linux-based, open computing and communications platform for smart meters. The challenge for network operators is “massive” as we transition to 5G, says Rabih Dabboussi, chief revenue officer of Japan-based disruptor Rakuten Symphony. He hopes operators won’t miss the chance to disrupt their thinking, their operating model, and the way they look at revenues.
