Big data and IoT to benefit UK industries through connectivity

The value of big data equity in the UK was estimated at £12 billion a year or 0.7% of the annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2012, writes Mark Wilkinson, the regional vice president for Northern Europe and Russia/CIS at SAS. Four years flew by and the second report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) has put the opportunity at £46 billion by 2020, or 2.2% of GDP – nearly four times the original value. Verizon and Skylo launch satellite messaging service for remote connectivity

Verizon and Skylo have partnered to launch a commercial direct-to-device messaging service for Verizon customers so they can stay connected wherever they are. Starting this fall, customers on certain smartphones have access to emergency messaging and location sharing even when a terrestrial cellular network is not available.
