The Federal Communications Commission and US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced partnership to promote awareness of Affordable Connectivity Programme (ACP) among federal housing assistance recipients. HUD secretary Marcia L. Fudge announced partnership while engaging with community members and touring a recently built computer lab at Yesler Terrace in Seattle,Washington. The partnership agreement reflects HUD’s commitment to increase outreach activities, alongside work both agencies are doing to decrease time it takes for recipients of HUD assistance to sign up for programme. The partnership monitors work that commission is doing to coordinate with other federal agencies to ensure that low-income households participating in eligible federal assistance programmmes are provided information about ACP, including how to enroll in programme. Starting this week, FCC and HUD will partner on ACP outreach targeted toward recipients of HUD assistance. (more…)

Baicells Technologies, has partnered with Tohono O’odham Utility Authority (TOUA) to bring access to advanced broadband connectivity and opportunity for tribal residents. The reservation boundary is approximately 30 miles west of Tucson, Arizona and extends south along the border with Mexico, Tohono O’odham nation of roughly 28,000 members, is spread across a number of remote villages where bringing access to broadband has always been a major challenge. Previously relying on basic Wi-Fi connectivity, in limited locations and with high Mbps speeds only in single digits, TOUA long recognised need to overhaul and upgrade their infrastructure and so built out their network plan. GCI announced that it has been granted $35 million (€32.40 million) from US Department of Agriculture Rural Development’s ReConnect programme to bring fibre-optic connectivity to Toksook Bay, Emmonak, and Tununak. Connectivity will be delivered to three communities through an expansion of AIRRAQ network, a joint GCI-Bethel Native Corporation (BNC) project to deliver high-speed broadband service to communities in Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta.
