Accenture Federal Services has won a $25 million (€23.36 million) digital transformation prime contract to modernise operations for Air Force Sustainment Centre (AFSC) including each of three air logistics complexes (ALCs) at Tinker Air Force based in Oklahoma, Robins air force base in Georgia, and Hill air force base in Utah. Using an approach that includes cloud, edge computing, and industrial internet of things (IIoT), Accenture Federal Services is creating IIoT enterprise platform for AFSC’s technology hosting environment for NextGen automation, a programme commonly referred to as ATHENA. The University of Liverpool’s project, has been awarded £9 million (€10.48 million) funding from department of science, innovation and technology. It aims to tackle challenge of poor digital connectivity in places where there is a high user demand such as busy railway stations, football matches or large concert venues. The Liverpool City Region High Demand Density (Liverpool City Region HDD) project aims to demonstrate benefits of open RAN (radio access network) technology to support large number of users accessing mobile and internet services in settings such as sports and music venues. Tarana Wireless, Inc., announced that Digital Alpha Advisors, has joined Tarana’s investor group. The $50 million (€46.92 million) up round led by Digital Alpha is focused on both accelerating Tarana’s growth in sales and deployment of G1 (generation 1), its next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) platform, as well as expanding R&D investment. Trusted Connectivity Alliance (TCA) has announced election of Bertrand Moussel (Valid) as chair of board for 2023-4. The organisation works to promote eSIM (embedded subscriber identity module) interoperability, advanced use of eSIM technology across upcoming IoT (internet of things) use-cases and support sustainable creation. Moussel has served on TCA’s board since 2016 and succeeds Claus Dietze (Giesecke+Devrient), who stepped down following three consecutive terms as chair. Dietze remains on board alongside Benoit Collier (IDEMIA), Christian Vignes (STMicroelectronics) and Stephane Quetglas (Thales). nexfibre, in partnership with Virgin Media O2, has reached an agreement with fibre operator, Upp, to acquire provider. The acquisition will boost fibre footprint of nexfibre by 175,000 premises in East of England and ensure investment and network build in region continues for years to come. The all-cash deal sees Virgin Media O2 initially purchase provider and carry out integration work, but nexfibre will thereby fund acquisition through a back-to-back agreement to buy Upp’s network assets.
