SaskTel announced that it has begun rolling out its 5G network in the cities of Warman and Martensville. Delivering hyper-fast data speeds, SaskTel’s 5G network is bringing a new level of connectivity to residents and businesses across Saskatchewan. Available in parts of Warman and Martensville, SaskTel anticipates majority of both communities will have 5G coverage soon.

“The launch of SaskTel’s 5G network is great news for the people of Warman and Martensville,” says Terry Jenson, MLA for Martensville-Warman. “The substantial investments SaskTel is making to upgrade their wireless network to 5G technology will support growth across Saskatchewan and ensure we remain one of the most well-connected provinces in the country.”

“This is an exciting announcement for the residents and business community in Warman,” says City of Warman mayor, Gary Philipchuk. “Modern technology and ‘hyper-fast’ connectivity are essential to a vibrant, growing community like Warman. SaskTel expanding its 5G network to our city will help Warman continue to be a premier destination to live, work, play and invest.”

Currently, SaskTel’s 5G network can deliver data speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps), and as it matures the network will provide faster speeds. Other future benefits of 5G will include network capacity and ultra-low latency, all of which will enable new use cases for emerging wireless technologies that will be the foundation that next-generation innovations will be built upon.

“5G technology has the potential to transform the way we connect and interact with the world,” says Charlene Gavel, SaskTel president and CEO. “More than just faster data speeds, 5G will further enable the deployment of new and exciting smart technologies that will help enhance the quality of life and drive economic development across Saskatchewan.”

The continued expansion of its 5G and fibre networks are a direct result of the record setting investments SaskTel is planning to make in 2023/24 and their commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion (€1.47 billion) of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years.

In order to connect to its 5G network, SaskTel customers need to be within a 5G coverage area, have a 5G capable device that is certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network, and subscribe to a 5G compatible wireless plan.
