Wifinity acquires Vital WiFi for maritime, offshore

Wifinity has acquired Vital WiFi, a company skilled in offshore vessel connectivity, as group continues its expansion in the UK. Wifinity delivers connectivity to people where ordinary broadband doesn’t reach, including rural and remote locations such as military bases and holiday parks.
The acquisition expands Wifinity’s services into new offshore sectors, including traditional and renewable energy platforms and commercial shipping, and follows the business’ LDC-backed management buyout in September 2021.
Hampshire-based Vital WiFi installed its connectivity system in 2012 and its internet solutions have since been used by millions of people all over the world. A key strength of the business is the functionality provided by wireless software platform, which brings new features to the Wifinity portfolio.
The Vital WiFi Wireless proposition enables clients to utilise a multi-branded portal which has the flexibility to meet their own and their end-users needs. Real-time customer surveys and context-sensitive messaging will enable clients, across the combined business, to engage with customers through WiFi, giving new insight and revenue opportunities to operators.
Costas Demetriou, CEO of Wifinity, says, “Joe Burnell and the team at Vital WiFi have built a great business that delivers secure, reliable and quality WiFi services in what are often challenging working environments. We’re thrilled that they’ve joined us. The acquisition provides a unique opportunity to expand into new, complimentary markets, while gaining a raft of new product features and industry expertise to help drive our continued growth in the UK and now offshore.”
Joe Burnell, founder of Vital WiFi, adds, “Joining the Wifinity Group is an incredibly important milestone for us as a team and reflects the quality proposition we’ve developed. The further expertise and resources now available to us as part of the Group will undoubtedly enable us to further strengthen our offering for our customers and reach a broader audience.”
