Hans-Peter Bauer of Blackberry

Dusseldorf, Germany, 3 February 2022 – BlackBerry announced the appointment of Hans-Peter Bauer as senior vice president EMEA, based in Germany, with responsibility for BlackBerry’s business and operations in the region.

The appointment of Hans-Peter Bauer, who has over 25 years of experience in the IT security industry, underscores BlackBerry’s focus on helping businesses and government agencies across Europe proactively protect IT infrastructures against the growing threat of cyber-attacks.

BlackBerry’s “Prevention First” approach was the reason for Hans-Peter Bauer’s switch to the provider of security software and services for the IoT. The approach involves the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to prevent cyberattacks from the outset. As the number of cyberattacks continues to rise, prevention is becoming increasingly important – especially as more and more devices connect to the network. By 2025, 55.7 billion devices worldwide are expected to be connected to the Internet of Things.

“BlackBerry stands above all for prevention-first in IT security,” explains Bauer. “One focus is the topic of automation, as attacks continue to rise, new variants appear regularly, and the necessary specialists are often lacking. The threats can no longer be combated purely manually. In this environment, innovative technologies play a decisive role.”

Bauer continues, “The systems on the market still work predominantly reactively. This is where BlackBerry thinks differently and takes the lead in terms of the more innovative and effective preventive approach. Our AI is tried and tested it has been learning from data for more than a decade and is therefore very advanced in detecting threats. The longer an AI learns, the better it works. In that respect, BlackBerry has a clear knowledge advantage in the cybersecurity field.”

Shaping the approach with many years of expertise

Hans-Peter Bauer brings a lot of experience to the further development of BlackBerry’s “Prevention First” approach. Since 2002, his particular focus has been on IT security. Bauer began his career at Siemens and has subsequently worked for various IT companies, including Lotus, IBM, Symantec and Juniper Networks. Prior to BlackBerry, Hans-Peter Bauer worked for McAfee for 14 years, most recently in his role as vice president Central and North/Eastern Europe.

Focus on new security concepts

Companies face the challenge of staying one step ahead of cybercriminals. BlackBerry offers a range of technologies for this purpose, which convince through their efficiency. Moreover, these technologies will shape the future of IT security.

Although the preventive approach relies primarily on new, innovative technologies, it builds on the foundation of BlackBerry’s well-known and valued legacy systems. In this respect, BlackBerry combines the preventive approach with the traditional approach to provide the best solution for organisations looking to protect their IT infrastructure from threats.
