Conrad expands its measurement technology range with Janitza’s innovative energy measurement devices

Conrad is expanding its range of innovative measurement solutions with the high performance UMG 512-PRO power quality analyser and the UMG 96-PA energy measurement device from Janitza. Both devices are designed for industrial, data centre, infrastructure, utilities and facility management applications. Janitza presented both devices at this year’s Hannover Messe in April.

The UMG 512-PRO is a Class A power quality analyser (in accordance to IEC61000-4-30) that precisely measures all power quality parameters at all levels of TN and TT networks as well as IT networks. In addition, the UMG 512-PRO can also be used for residual current monitoring and energy data management. These capabilities make the UMG 512-PRO an important component for ensuring the reliability of production equipment.

The device has an intuitively designed colour graphic display for easy access to numerous functions and a clear display of all measuring points. Measured values and events can either be displayed numerically, in bar charts form or in line graph form. Waveform display is possible for current and voltage curves.

The UMG 512-PRO power quality analyser supports various Ethernet protocols and enables economical remote monitoring of critical processes. As a Modbus gateway, the UMG 512-PRO can cost-effectively connect subordinate measuring devices without an Ethernet interface. The device-specific Homepage for these measuring devices is ideal for users or target groups within a company, who do not wish to install the GridVis software or do not require it. To access it, the user simply requires a conventional web browser and an Ethernet connection (or a local patch cable).

The UMG 512-PRO includes the GridVis-Basic software with which the measuring device can be programmed and configured. The readout, storage, display, processing and analysis of the measured data is also carried out via the software package. One of the GridVis features includes the ability to keep track of consumption data and costs as well as to detect abnormalities.

The UMG 96-PA energy measurement device combines four solutions in one device: energy management, power quality monitoring and residual currents monitoring (RCM). The device is also available as a MID-compliant type (Measuring Instruments Directive), which has the advantage of carrying out certified and tamper-proof measurements in accordance with MID and legally compliant accounting, and energy recording in accordance with the German Renewable Energies Act (EEG) and Electricity Tax Act (StromStG).

The UMG 96-PA acquires current and voltage in different kinds of mains networks, TN and TT networks (overvoltage category 600V CAT III). with its high-quality colour graphic display it supports user-friendly menu navigation.

The UMG 96-PA can be used in a wide range of applications, such as in energy management systems. Continuous energy monitoring enables the UMG 96-PA to identify potential savings and meet tax and regulatory requirements.

With continuous power quality monitoring provided by the UMG 96-PA, production downtimes and quality defects in a product can be avoided. The RCM measurement (permanent monitoring of residual currents) increases fire protection and personal safety, and ensures higher system reliability. Continuous monitoring also reduces the user workload during the DGUV V3 (German Social Accident Insurance) criteria tests.

The UMG 96-PA energy measurement device offers a slot for expansion modules, which increases the number of applications; for instance, two analogue inputs – optionally as 0-20mA analogue inputs (e.g. DC measurement) or as RCM measuring inputs with cable break detection. An additional temperature measurement with PT100, PT1000, KTY83 and KTY84 thermocouples is also possible. A protocol interface with Ethernet connection (RJ45) can also be implemented. It is suitable for Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU over Ethernet and Modbus Gateway. With this huge range of options, practically every measuring task can be achieved.
