Boingo Wireless has deployed state-of-the-art wireless networks at the Rhode Island Convention Center (RICC) and Amica Mutual Pavilion (AMP). Located in downtown Providence, the RICC features over 120,000 square feet of exhibition and meeting space. Connected to the RICC is the AMP, a 14,000-seat arena that is home to the AHL Providence Bruins and the NCAA Big East Providence College men’s basketball team.
“Connectivity is the backbone of every event we host—whether it’s a corporate conference, a concert, family show or sporting event. Choosing the right wireless partner was crucial, and Boingo stood out for their unmatched wireless expertise, network design capabilities and proven success in connecting large, multi-use venues and sports and entertainment facilities. Boingo supports our digital transformation by managing both our private cellular and Wi-Fi networks, keeping our guests connected and operations running smoothly,” said Dan McConaghy, the executive director of the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority.
Boingo’s converged network at RICC and AMP features private cellular and Wi-Fi 6/6E to support mobile ticketing, exhibitor connectivity, mobile devices, smart lighting and more. More than 500 Wi-Fi 6 Access Points were deployed to deliver fast connectivity to meeting rooms, exhibitor spaces, ballrooms and arena seats. The state-of-the-art private cellular network runs on CBRS and accompanies Wi-Fi 6/6E to facilitate secure digital operations. The private network provides added network security for venue point-of-sale systems and data sensitive applications.
Boingo designed, built, deployed and now manages the networks. Ongoing network maintenance and cybersecurity protection is backed by Boingo’s Network Operations Center and 24/7/365 monitoring.
“With Boingo’s converged private network and Wi-Fi 6 solution, both the Rhode Island Convention Center and Amica Mutual Pavilion are fully equipped to meet fan expectations and operational demands of live events,” said Mike Finley, the CEO at Boingo. “We’re proud to add these premier New England venues to Boingo’s portfolio of more than 70 sports and entertainment venues and world-class convention centres.”
Boingo networks support more than 8.8 million square feet of convention center space throughout the U.S. This includes connecting the Las Vegas Convention Center with a multi-carrier cellular distributed antenna system (DAS) that boosts 5G coverage for all Tier One carriers. Boingo DAS networks also power connectivity at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center in Honolulu.
