Hirschmann OpEdge-8D is now a Microsoft Azure Certified Device
Jeremy M Friedmar of Belden
Belden has announced that Hirschmann OpEdge-8D has joined Microsoft Azure Certified Device programme. The Azure certification ensures that customers get internet of things (IoT) solutions up with hardware and software that has been pre-tested and verified to work with Azure IoT. As an Azure certified device, OpEdge-8D meets management standards for Azure connected devices while also being certified for IoT plug and play, allowing building of devices that are integrated with cloud based IoT services and solutions.
In pursuit of simplifying and increasing IoT projects, companies are looking for productive ways to choose and connect right set of devices, assets, or sensors to cloud. To jumpstart IoT projects with confidence, customers are looking for certified devices and platforms that are tested for readiness, compatibility, and usability. Choosing an Azure certified device saves time and effort on project specs and RFP (request for proposal) processes by knowing in advance what devices and offerings will work with Azure IoT.
The Hirschmann OpEdge-8D is an industrial-grade edge gateway with a compact, DIN (director identification number) rail mount form factor that provides customers with a secure operating system (OS) and easy-to-use user interface (UI) for managing the networking and security features of the device, as well as user-defined containers and virtual machines (VMs). OpEdge-8D is also integrated with the Belden Horizon console for device management, secure remote access, and edge application orchestration at scale. Collectively this technology can be leveraged to connect information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems to support use cases where OT data needs to be processed to derive valuable insights for user. The Hirschmann OpEdge-8D has been tested for functionality and interoperability, ensuring that it has used the Microsoft reference configuration.
“Being part of the Microsoft Azure Certified Device programme is further validation of our ability to jumpstart customers’ IoT projects with pre-tested device and operating system combinations. Decreasing the usual customisation and work required for compatibility ensures that we are helping customers get quickly started on their IoT solution.” says Jeremy M. Friedmar, director of product management for edge solutions at Belden Inc. The Hirschmann OpEdge-8D is already recognised as the premiere solution for deployment of edge computing near OT data sources, and is suitable for use in any industrial setting, including manufacturing, energy, transportation, and machine building. “We’re very pleased to be working with Microsoft as we continue strengthening our industrial solutions in our served markets,” adds Friedmar.
