Wearable AI for the blind and visually impaired to be shown at CES
The OrCam MyEye 2 wearable device that reads printed and digital text aloud – reportedly from any
surface – and recognises faces, products, barcodes and more, all in real time is to be shown at
CES this week.
The world’s first preview of the artificial intelligence (AI) features of OrCam MyEye 2 will be shown
at CES 2020 event (Sands, Halls A-D – 44749) in Las Vegas, Nevada, starting on Tuesday January 7th.
The product is scheduled to be released later this year. It enables:
- Interactive reading powered by natural language processing (NLP).
- Orientation, to assist the device wearer with mobility and the identification of objects.
Magnetically mounted on the wearer’s spectacles or sunglasses frame, OrCam MyEye 2 is the only wearable artificial vision technology that is activated by an intuitive pointing gesture or simply by following the wearer’s gaze – allowing for hands-free use without the need of a smartphone or Wi-Fi.
CES 2020 will also debut the first of a new class of wearable AI assistive technology. OrCam Hear is a wearable add-on that augments and integrates with hearing aids. The device identifies lip movement and body gestures to detect the voice you want to hear, and intuitively switches when the OrCam Hear wearer chooses to hear a new person speak.
OrCam Technologies specialises in personal artificial vision innovation – AI for humans. The company was jointly founded in 2010 by Israeli innovators Prof. Amnon Shashua and Mr. Ziv Aviram, who are also the co-founders of Mobileye (now an Intel company), the collision avoidance system leader and autonomous driving innovator, which was acquired by Intel Corp. in August 2017 for US$15.3 billion (€13.6 billion). In February 2018, OrCam completed a funding round that valued the company at $1 billion (€0.89 billion).
