Sigfox awards SGS laboratory certification at test labs in China, Finland and Taiwan
Internet of Things (IoT) services provider, Sigfox has awarded SGS ‘Accredited Test Lab’ (ATL) status for its testing and certification facilities in Shenzhen (China), New Taipei City (Taiwan) and Espoo (Finland).
Sigfox is enabling large-scale connection of objects where all the network and computing complexity is managed in the cloud, rather than on the devices. Since 2010, the company has built a global network that connects billions of “low-energy devices” to the internet, utilising device-to-cloud communications that is drastically reducing energy consumption and product costs.
With the uptick in Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) implementations, SGS is anticipating high demand from manufacturers and product designers looking to certify their wireless products for IoT ecosystems operating on the fast-expanding Sigfox network.

For devices intending to communicate on the Sigfox Network, the company demands Sigfox Ready certification to ensure full functionality. These comprise two kinds of tests:
- RF & protocol tests, to check Sigfox protocol & RF performance compliance
- Radiated performance tests, to assess the radiated performances of the device. These radiation tests will define a radiated power classification of the device in uplink mode
SGS has a strong and growing portfolio of certifications and accreditations, with competence centres in North America, Asia and Europe including laboratories worldwide that are ISO 17025 accredited. It offers testing services for LPWA technologies such as SigFox, LoRa, NB-IoT, CAT M1 in addition to GCF, PTCRB, CTIA, Bluetooth SIG, Wi-Fi Alliance, Thread, NFC, Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), USB, Global Platform, and Continua Alliance.
