NAS now offers NB-IoT and LTE-M technologies
Viljo Veesaar of Nordic Automation
Nordic Automation Systems announces adding the cellular IoT, including NB-IoT (LTE CAT NB1) and LTE-M (LTE Cat-M1) technologies, to their product range. NB-IoT and LTE-M both allow low-power wide-area communication between battery operating sensors and a core network. Both NB-IoT and LTE-M benefit from all the security and privacy features of mobile networks, such as entity authentication, confidentiality, data integrity, etc.
NB-IoT is a narrowband technology standard designed to operate in or around LTE bands. With long range and power efficient at low data rates, NB-IoT is perfect for low throughput applications like smart metering and smart city applications.
LTE-M is designed for low power applications requiring medium throughput. It has a narrower bandwidth compared to regular LTE, giving it a longer range. The low latency offers a real-time communication for time-critical applications. LTE-M is suited for applications for operating across multiple regions.
The main features of LTE-M are:
- Low latency
- Roaming
- Mobility
- The most power efficient at medium data rates
- Suitable for TCP/TLS end-to-end secure connection
“We are already using LoRaWAN, but based on customer feedback, we felt the need to add cellular IoT as a complementary service.” says Viljo Veesaar, the CEO of Nordic Automation Systems. “We see great opportunities with NB-IoT and LTE-M technology, especially in street lighting controlling and gas monitoring areas.” he adds.
