Schindler targets road safety and driver behaviour improvements with Ctrack vehicle tracking solution
Schindler, a provider of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways, has adopted an advanced telematics solution from Ctrack, an Inseego company, as part of its road safety and risk management strategy within the UK.
The company will use Ctrack Online to track a fleet of 357 vans, operated by its nationwide network of lift maintenance and repair engineers, with the aim of reducing traffic accidents and lowering insurance costs by making its drivers safer.
Schindler selected Ctrack following a competitive tender process based on the ability of the system to effectively monitor and influence driver behaviour. Having never previously used vehicle tracking within its fleet operation, the company needed a partner that would guide it through the implementation process and provide ongoing support to avoid any operational disruption and maximise return on investment.
The solution will use Ctrack’s Driver Behaviour Indicator (DBI), a dashboard-mounted feedback system, that alerts drivers to any infringements when on the road. The DBI device will display a cumulative number of traffic light coloured warning lights, accompanied by an audible signal, to draw attention to any harsh driving, speeding or excess idling. A sustained period of responsible driving will enable a driver to clear the lights.
Meanwhile, a Driver League Table report will allow Schindler to quickly and easily compare performance across the fleet to help identify areas of improvement. As a result, the company will be able to target underperforming drivers with appropriate training and engagement, while the company will use the added insight to reduce operational risk within the business.
Access will also be provided to Schindler’s insurance partner, HDI Global, to ensure it has the necessary levels of cover and support the claims management process.
Richard Paulin, procurement specialist at Schindler commented: “Safety is a top priority for us and we adhere to strict safety codes and standards for all our products and services. We also recognise the importance of protecting our employees and the communities we operate in, so it was important to enhance this commitment to ensure we operate a highly responsible vehicle fleet.
We have worked closely with Ctrack to develop and implement an innovative telematics systems that will help us minimise vehicle-related risk, reduce accidents and drive down insurance costs.”
John Wisdom, European managing director said: “Improving the way your employees drive has a considerable impact in terms of reducing costs such as fuel expenditure, insurance and wear and tear, while enhancing levels of operational efficiency, environmental responsibility and duty of care.
We are working with an increasing number of industry-leading businesses such as Schindler to achieve positive driving behaviour as part of a wider commitment to road safety and fleet best practice.”
